The men of the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards looked dapper on the red carpet in their classic tuxedos. The event was held last night (January 15) in Beverly Hills California. When looking through the lookbook album on The Socialite Life, this year men paid attention to detail. I was pleasantly impressed with the comeback of velvet. I noticed a lot of full velvet tuxedos mixed with satin lapels. The carpet was flooded with sharply dressed gents in peek lapels, notch collars, dinner jackets, vintage bowties, slim fits, classic handkerchiefs, patent leather tux shoes and more: a true gentleman’s dream closet.
I picked 3 of the Best Dressed men of the event….
#1 Idris Elba- 2012 winner for Lead Actor in a TV miniseries or Movie. Idris is slowly moving up the charts as a fashion icon. Recently, he has been killing it in the fashion arena everytime I see him photo'd. He took a traditional approach to a double breasted peek lapel, double vented tuxedo jacket and dressed it up, while dressing it down with slip in Christian Louboutin roller boat spiked sneakers. He accessorized this look with a wide collar dress shirt, stripped satin black tie, squared off white handkerchief, sliver tip clip, male flower brooch, and slim tux pants. All hail to this look *bows down*.
#2 Ryan Kwanten- In the case of fashion repeating itself, the comeback of velvet on the red carpet is back and Ryan takes the #2 spot for this classic look. This tux is a perfect fit!!!! Fellas fit is VERY important. He paired this 2 button velvet dinner jacket with a simple vintage velvet bowtie (like the one I am wearing the ilikemanBlog header. With a clean haircut and an awarding winning smile, Ryan was ready to make his presence known, and that HE DID!
#3 Rickey Gervais- Now THIS!!! excites me. Rickey didn’t take the traditional approach at all. In Fashion it’s the dare devils that get noticed and Rickey's eye for fashion landed him at the #3 Best Dressed of the Golden Globes. He keeps it hip with accessorizing this look with tinted shades. This cranberry one button peek lapel tux is everything it needs to be and more. Rickey Gervais thank you for adding color to the red carpet.
